About Me
Hi, I’m Gav Harrison, a Pontefract based wedding photographer, portrait photographer and digital artist.
I operate primarily within the West Yorkshire region, however I am willing to travel further afield within the UK.
I am a 30 year old family man, married to Emma and father to Joel and Lydia.
I have a wealth of experience in using the most up to date 2D and 3D digital imaging packages. I first started dabbling with Photoshop before I even started university in 1995. My Dad always loved photography and had his own darkroom when I was growing up. I’ve always loved the ability to capture a moment in time and save it forever on a photograph. The only thing which disappointed me with traditional film photography was the amount of time it took from pressing the shutter release to seeing the results. (Most of the time, peoples eyes were either half shut or they were captured halfway through speaking, giving the impression that they were dopey or grimacing! By the time you realised, a week had passed since taking the photo!)
My brother kindly gave me my first digital camera in 2001, and at that point I photographed nearly everyone and everything in sight! I loved the fact that with digital photography there are no restrictions to the quantity of photographs you could take. If you don’t like one… delete it! It gave me the much needed opportunity to practise with photography. Framing, exposure, poses, timing etc.
When I graduated from Sheffield Hallam University in 2000 with a degree in Industrial Product Design, I immediately went into employment within a 3D design discipline, working for an automotive lighting firm designing light bars and beacons for the tops emergency vehicles across the globe. I started out as a mere Computer Draughtsperson, and over the space of 7 years there, I moved up the ladder to CAD team leader.
During that time I realised my passion for graphics and digital imaging packages such as Photoshop and Illustrator. By 2004 I had decided to buy my first Semi-Pro Digital SLR camera and assisted a few other wedding photographers in the West Yorkshire region in order to build a portfolio of work. The thing which I have always felt made me different from them was the way I used the photographs to create something different than a point and shoot image which could have been taken by ‘Uncle Barry’ at the wedding. Using the camera as a way to ‘get the paint on the canvas’ opened up so much potential with the images I then created once the photos were on the computer. With the realisation that photography and digital imaging were exactly what I loved doing, I set up White Room Photography & Imaging in September 2004.
The way I have always promoted myself is ‘A digital Artist who knows how to use a camera’ rather than a traditional photographer who has had to learn the digital side of the trade in order to secure their sustainability.
I worked at it part time along side a new full time role as Product Design Manager for a lighting firm in Dewsbury before getting so much work under the belt that I could afford to quit the normal day job to follow my passion.
In August 2007 I took the plunge and went full time with my photography. In the 4 years I worked part time on the photography, I photographed multiple weddings in and around the region. Some of the beautiful venues included Rogerthorpe Manor, Ripley Castle, Gomersal Park Hotel, King’s Croft, Wood Hall, Hollins Hall, Oakwood Hall, Holdsworth House, Ramada Parkway and Harewood House. Since August I have promoted myself heavily through wedding fairs and have secured plenty more bookings for the coming years. Some of the upcoming venues include; Allerton Castle, Castle Donnington, Valley Gardens in Harrogate, Healds Hall, Bowers Mill, Oulton Hall, York Racecourse, Rudding Park, Nostel Priory, Waterton Park, Thorpe Park and Burntwood Court.
As you can see from the list, I primarily cover West Yorkshire, namely the Leeds, Wakefield, Castleford, Pontefract, Halifax, Bradford, York and Harrogate areas, but am willing to travel further afield should I need to.
I take huge amount of pride in the work I do and each and every photo put in your album (or frame) is worked on to the highest level of accuracy and care. I have never just put a photo straight from the camera straight into an album, each image is treated like a work of art in order to ensure the album or product you have paid for is 100% to your satisfaction.
Please feel free to either visit me at an upcoming wedding fayre (all dates and venues are listed HERE) or contact me using the contact me form to arrange a no-obligation consultation where I can take you through my demonstration albums and a laptop computer slideshow where I can show you some of my most recent work.
Please also feel free to browse my galleries, blog, and testimonials pages to see what existing clients have received in terms of the service I offer.
Thanks for taking the time out to look at my work and read about me and my services.
